Important Issues February 2011 |
With the new Congress considering ways to make government more responsive to the American public, new hope has risen for those who are looking for
more freedom in educating their children. Vouchers and tax credits are two possibilities.
This is where homeschooling parents need to pay attention to the critical thinking curriculum they are using and apply those techniques to such news. At first glance, tax credits sound like a boom to homeschoolers who are struggling to live on one income in a two-income society. Certain homeschool-related organizations have even come out in favor of the tax breaks. But if you take a closer look, they may do more to bust the basic foundation of homeschooling – freedom of choice. The potential sledge hammer that could come crashing down on our foundation is introducing federal involvement in our children’s education for the sake of a few dollars. Dollars that inevitably will have to be tied to some sort of qualifications and regulations. That’s the nature of the federal tax code. Just ask any accountant or tax-preparation business (who incidentally, must now be “certified”!). For additional insight on this dangerous proposition, read the January 5, 2011 blog from the Spunky Homeschooler entitled, “Homeschoolers and Tax Breaks.” http://spunkyhomeschool.blogspot.com/2011/01/homeschoolers-and-tax-break.html 142 Words To view more 'News Items' Articles please 'Log In' and visit the 'Achives' page. |
