Why are we doing this? Why am I putting myself through this? Have you ever reached the point in homeschooling when you asked yourself these questions? If you’re new to homeschooling or just thinking about it, don’t let the possibility of these questions deter you. Homeschooling, like any job or task, has its good days and bad days. Asking these questions is actually a healthy habit. When we have the ultimate goal in mind, when we have a vision for what we are doing, we can keep pressing forward, even on the bad days. It’s called perseverance. Paul described it in Philippians 3:13,14. To prepare for these days and counteract the negative impact on your efforts, it helps to have a written Purpose Statement for your home education. A purpose statement or mission statement is a sentence or short paragraph that explains why your family decided to homeschool. It’s not the specific circumstances that caused the decision, but the general reasons behind it. Another way of looking at this is to ask yourself what you want to accomplish through training your child at home. Families homeschool for a variety of reasons, but they generally fall into one of three broad categories:
KEY WORDS: purpose, goal, mission, reason, approach For more information on developing a Purpose Statement or Family Mission Statement, look in the 'Archives' section or search for 'Purpose Statement' on the 'Search' page of this website. |
