Check out these inexpensive field trip ideas: . • go on a short trip that requires reading maps • attend a city council meeting or legislative committee meeting • assist a neighbor in gardening • identify wildflowers at the park or meadow • visit a local farm or dairy • pound or animal shelter • adopt-a-pet session or animal visits at the local pet store • map your street, block, neighborhood • do comparison shopping at sales events • take a hike that requires reading a compass or mapping the terrain • do interviews with neighbors, friends, colleagues on historical events • "trail" someone on the job • check for historical markers or sites nearby • take an architectural tour of a city • check your local chamber of commerce or visitors center for events • community events listed in the Sunday paper or local radio station are often free or inexpensive • visit a nursing home • community colleges and universities often have art fairs and other inexpensive activities • fire station • local newspaper • local companies that offer tours • book readings at the library or bookstores • go to the local park with field guides to identify animals, birds, flowers, trees • historical museums and children's museums are often less expensive than regular museums • get a group together so you can get the group discount • virtual tours on the Internet 285 Words To view more 'Teaching Tips' Articles please 'Log In' and visit the 'Achives' page. |
