Craft Dough

Basic Craft Dough
Adult supervision recommended.
This craft dough mixture can be used to create a variety of hands-on activities to extend learning. Since I have a visual and hands-on learner, I’ve used it a lot. It’s inexpensive, made from common baking ingredients, and is easy to clean-up. It was a staple in our house during our Geography lesson – it can be molded into mountains, fjords, kettles, valleys, bays, you name it.

1 ½ cups flour
¾ cup salt
¾ cup water

Mix flour, salt, and water together. Add small amounts of water slowly if needed until mixture can be kneaded. Knead until dough can be worked into shapes. Use immediately to mold into the desired project.

Storable Craft Dough
Adult supervision recommended.

3 cups flour
1 cup salt
1 cup water
¼ cup oil
2 T. vinegar

Mix flour, salt, water, oil, and vinegar together. Add small amounts of water slowly if needed until mixture can be kneaded. Knead until dough can be worked into shapes. This dough can be kept in a plastic bag. Dampen periodically to keep the dough from drying out.

Paintable Craft Dough
Adult supervision recommended.

¾ cup flour
½ cup salt
½ cup cornstarch
warm water

Mix flour, salt, and cornstarch together. Slowly add small amounts of warm water until the mixture can be kneaded. Form into shapes. Let dry and paint.

To make jewelry beads, roll dough into little balls, insert a toothpick through the center of the each ball, and let dry. Remove toothpicks and paint. String beads as desired.
