Thinking Like a Christian Teaching Set
and Student Journal

by David Noebel

Published by Broadman & Holman
184 pages, paperback (with CD)

Finally, a user-friendly curriculum that puts worldviews in focus from the author of the worldview resource, Understanding the Times. From TV news to the public school classroom, secular ideas are presented as “the way to think” even though they are based on false assumptions. Many Christians are unaware of this faulty reasoning and fall prey to these ideas, often without even realizing it. They don’t understand how remarkably reasonable it is to view the world from a biblical perspective.

This vital resource is designed to build a young person’s assurance that a Bible-based worldview makes sense, alerts them to the pitfalls of secular reasoning, and helps them confront alternative worldviews. In easy-to-understand language, it explains worldview across a variety of topics – law, biology, theology, psychology, politics, philosophy, sociology, economics, history and ethics.

The Teaching Set contains the resource book and a CD. The resource book gives background information and “teaching text” for the parent or leader. The CD contains printable lessons plans for a variety of settings, including homeschooling, youth groups, Sunday School classes, and private classrooms. The material is appropriate for high school students and adults.

The lesson plans suggest a variety of activities, writing assignments, and research projects that add substance to the course. These can be assigned based on the child’s interest level and educational goals. A separate Student Journal is available that helps students think through the issues and apply the material to their daily life.

We did this program in 9th grade in order to give my children a basic understanding of worldview. I presented the lesson plans as designed, and then had my children read the resource text. I didn’t give a lot of writing assignments, apart from the Journal questions, because our purpose was to get an overall feel for worldview issues. Instead, we had a lot of family discussions using the material learned, articles from World Magazine, and the nightly news. This way they were able to see how relevant the lessons were. I believe they came away with a solid understanding of worldview that will serve them well in college and their careers.

Dr. Noebel is president and co-founder of Summit Ministries, a training center that teaches Christians to think and act according to the biblical worldview. He has been a guest on national TV and radio programs, including The 700 Club, Focus on the Family, and Truths that Transform. This workbook is based on his popular training seminars and workshops.
