“I can’t stop reading it!” my son said. My husband just looked at me in a strange way and didn’t say a word. He didn’t want to say anything to dissuade our son from the excitement he was finding in this book. This hasn’t happened before with any book he has read. What was the book? It was one of “The Kingdom Series” books by Chuck Black.
Our older son loved the series but he was always a very good reader and enjoyed many different types of books over the years. This son has always been a little behind his grade level in reading and quite often would get three-quarters of the way through a book and just decide he didn’t care to finish it. My thought as a mother and a book lover was - just finish it, for crying out loud. One of the things I like about the series is the Biblical allegories throughout the books. My children did not see any similarities between these stories and any stories they had ever heard before, until I mentioned some Bible stories. Then they both said, “Oh yeah, I see it now!” They even kept me posted as to which Bible story they recognized as they were reading. If you have a reluctant reader (or not) and want some safe action/adventure books for your child, definitely give “The Kingdom Series” by Chuck Black a try. by Rita Higgins Kingdom's Call - Book 4; Kingdom's Quest - Book 5; Kingdom's Reign - Book 6
