by Lori Coeman published by Mott Media, L.L.C.; 147 pages, spiral binding
I had read some things about learning styles and heard about it on the radio. I suspected that some of the problems we were having had to do with learning styles, but I wasn’t sure where to turn. I picked up Lori’s book and soon realized that our biggest problem is that I am the opposite learning style from my daughter! I was expecting her to learn the way I did, and couldn’t understand why she didn’t get it when I explained things to her. Now I know.
One of the things I liked most about the book is that it explained things in a down-to-earth manner, in a way I could understand it. There’s space on each page to make notes, and I certainly took advantage of it. Each chapter covered a different aspect of learning style and had charts and checklists to help identify my daughter’s style. Then there were tips on how to change the way I was teaching and how to adjust our curriculum to help my daughter learn. There are also chapters on how the brain works that explained a lot of what I was dealing with and what the Bible says about teaching and learning. We decided to get the Discovery Zone as well so that we could identify each of our children’s learning style. My husband and I did it, too. We learned a lot about our family. I know we have some issues to work on in our homeschooling, but at least I feel as if I know what to do and can choose a program next year that will fit my daughter better.
