by Lori Coeman published by Mott Media, L.L.C.; 12 pages, paperback
This is a companion resource to my book, Navigating through Homeschooling Waters (see the Product Reviews). Both books come directly from my consultations.
As we talk about the various programs available to fit their children’s learning styles, it doesn’t take long before parents realize that the right curriculum is
also based on their goals, reasons for homeschooling, and what they want their homeschooling to accomplish. Yet I find many of them have not had a chance to think
through these issues. Some don’t even know where to begin. That’s the purpose of these booklets.
I wrote the first book, Navigating through Homeschooling Waters, to give the necessary background information and simple explanations to get families started in developing their own purpose statement, educational goals, and vision. It used open-ended questions to guide the process. As time went on, I found that more and more families needed additional guidance. They had no idea where to start. They couldn’t answer the questions because they didn’t even know what to think. And they didn’t have time to research possible answers. So I wrote this booklet to prompt their thinking. It contains the same open-ended questions as the first booklet, but this time I added multiple-choice options. This way families don’t have to “start from scratch” and can build on the choices I present. By completing the pages, parents will have the start of a family mission statement, philosophy of education, statement of worldview, and list of long-term goals to guide their homeschooling efforts.
